The Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri V.K. Duggal, the Director General, National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), Government of India, Shri J.P. Rai, the Director General, Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), Ministry of Labour & Employment, & Joint Secretary, Government of India, Shri Alok Kumar, the MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Shri Dilip Chenoy, the Chairman & Managing Editor, India TV, Shri Rajat Sharma, the Commissioner, Jaipur Development Authority, Shri Shikhar Agarwal, and noted Actor & Social Activist Ms. Shabana Azmi were Guests of Honor at the program.

Over 400 of the nearly 5,000 students who successfully completed their courses at the VLCC Institute of Beauty & Nutrition during 2013-14 attended the Convocation ceremony and were personally presented the diplomas by the Hon’ble Governor, Shri Rai, Shri Kumar, Shri Chenoy, Shri Sharma, Shri Agarwal, Ms Azmi and the VLCC Founder & Vice-Chairperson, Mrs. Vandana Luthra.

Congratulating the students at the ceremony, VLCC Founder & Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Vandana Luthra said: “I would like to congratulate all the students who received their diplomas today and wish them the very best for the future. I am sure that they will take advantage of the training they have received at the VLCC Institutes to not just secure their own futures in the fast-growing Wellness domain but also act as ambassadors-at-large of a confident, young and skilled India.”

Mrs. Luthra said India is uniquely positioned to leverage its favorable demographic profile to take the final step in its transition from a developing to a developed nation. “The future of our country rests on the skill-sets of our youths. It is imperative that all of us work towards creating an ecosystem where skills are recognized and valued. Only when we do that can we truly leverage India’s favorable demographic profile to emerge as a developed nation, and possibly even become the ‘Skills Capital’ of the world by the turn of this decade,” she pointed out.

Mrs. Luthra – who is also Chairperson of the industry-led and government-backed Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council in India - said VLCC is deeply committed to the cause of vocational education and training in the Wellness space to further the cause of women empowerment in the light of the fact that the Wellness domain employs a large number of women. “As an organization almost 70% of whose nearly 6,000-plus workforce happens to be women, nothing has given us more joy over the 25 years of VLCC’s existence than being able to enable thousands of women to take charge of their own lives and shape their destinies through the cutting-edge, industry-focused training provided at the VLCC Institutes across the length and breadth of the country,” Mrs. Luthra said.

Mrs. Luthra said the VLCC Institutes have since their inception set over 50,000 youths on the path of success by empowering them with the requisite industry-oriented skills to find decent, well-paying jobs, or become gainfully self-employed. VLCC is also working very closely with several states and the Central government to impart job-ready training in the fields of beauty and nutrition to thousands of youths across India. “For me, the chain of VLCC Institutes is what truly makes VLCC unique because what we do through them is to promote social and economic inclusion of a scale which has never before been thought of or attempted by any Indian corporate,” she added.

The Convocation Ceremony also witnessed dance performances by children supported by the NGO Khushii - an initiative with which VLCC’s Founder & Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Vandana Luthra is also keenly involved - and students from Arunachal Pradesh currently undergoing training at the VLCC Institutes. Moreover, a ‘Bridal Show’ and a ‘Fashion Show’ were held at the Convocation. Eminent fashion designer Ms. Varija Bajaj provided support to the ‘Fashion Show’ through her designs.
