New Delhi, February 28, 2017: Amity International School, Noida’s ‘One Up on Herd Street’ team has emerged as the winner of the second edition of the South Asia and Middle East Regional Finale Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS) Investment Competition that was held at the 6th edition of One Globe Forum held in New Delhi earlier this monthwinners‘The Rainmakers’ team from Amity International School, Saket, bagged the second prize while ‘Silver Stone Partners’ team from International School, Bangalore took the third prize. The winning teams will travel to The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to participate in the grand finale on this year.
The South Asia and Middle East Regional Finale was managed for Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS) by BrainGain Magazine, a study abroad magazine for students, their parents and mid-career professionals in South Asia, which also partners for sending high school students to the KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy. The competition was sponsored for the first time by FLAME University, an institution based in Pune, India that is revolutionizing higher education in the country with its liberal education approach.
Out of the 200 teams that had registered, 12 finalist teams were selected over a period of four months, which presented their investment strategies at the One Globe Forum to a jury consisting of Rajesh Sehgal, Senior Executive Director with (EMG) of Franklin Templeton Investments; Rajat Kumar, Vice President, Planning & Projects, Snapdeal; and Dominic Johnson,Director of Business Operations, Knowledge@Wharton.
In addition to the three winning teams, the top finalist teams included: Sri Kumaran Children’s Home (Inception), Inventure Academy (The Alchemists), Amity International School, Gurgaon (Alpha Infinitum), Amity International School, Pushp Vihar(Corporate Pirates), Neerja Modi School (Gamma Papa Investments), Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh (Marxist Moneymakers), Canadian International School (Solito Negotium), Amity International School, Mayur Vihar (Stock Mubarak) and NSS Hill Spring International School (The Wolves of Dalal Street). Two of these finalist teams delivered their presentations over Skype.
Diana Drake, Managing Editor at Knowledge@Wharton High School, who was in India to attend the KWHS Investment Competition’s Regional Finale in New Delhi, said, “I was very impressed with the presentations by the students. The sincerity and dedication with which they have worked for this competition is evident in the brilliant presentations they delivered. You take away certain skill sets when you participate in our investment competition, such as teamwork, leadership, risk taking and communication. It's rewarding to see that the teams seized this opportunity and developed many of these skills.”
The competition is a free, global, online investment simulation for high school students from Class 9 to Class 12. Each competing team of four to nine students must manage a portfolio of $100,000 in virtual cash using the OTIS online trading system, Wharton’s Online Trading and Investment Simulator. Ultimately, teams are judged on how well they develop and articulate a sound and unique investment strategy, not on the growth of their portfolios.
