Mumbai, October 7th, 2015: On 21st October Michelle Kakade (The Queen of Endurance) will undertake an epic journey on foot that has never been attempted before encompassing the length & breadth of our vast country covering a distance of 6010 kms along the Golden Quadrilateral that connects the 4 major metros of our country namely Mumbai in the west, Delhi in the north, Kolkatta in the East and Chennai in the south.
Being flagged off from the Gateway of India at , Michelle will cover the entire distance by foot. Running about 35 kms every day, she is expected to complete the run in 171 stages spread over 187 days. With only 16 rest days she will be doing the equivalent of running 143 full marathons in that period.
At the 14 major metros of Surat, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Varanasi, Kolkatta. Bhubaneswar, Vishakapatnam, Vijaywada, Chennai, Bangalore, Satara, Pune and lastly Mumbai she will encourage first time runners to take up running for good health by participating in ‘Run with Michelle – 5K’ runs.
Michelle herself is a formidable endurance athlete. She has 3 Limca Records to her credit all in the arena of endurance running. She has been tested by the leading medical fraternity of the country and they found themselves satisfied that she can take the challenge.
In order to stake her claim for the Guinness World Record she will employ the latest in technologies to authenticate her title. Using the latest in GPS wearable technologies her run location, heart rate and pace will be available in real time basis. She will run along the Golden Quadrilateral as defined by the National Highway Authority of India. On each day she will mark the spot where she stops and the next day will then resume her run from the same location. Geotagged photos as well as videos uploaded on regular basis will serve as further evidence of her progress.
Michelle has been medically tested extensively by Dr Ashish Contractor, Cardiologist and eminent sports physician as well as Dr Madhan Ramanathan, Sports Physiotherapist. She has been training for the past several months under the expert guidance of Mr. Raj Vadgama who is himself a Limca Book of Records holder for having run the Bharathon of more than 9000 kms. Dr Gayatri Thakoor Vyas is her sports nutritionist and she has been closely monitoring her meal plans.
The event is being backed by an equally formidable galaxy of partners. The event organizers are YouTooCanRun, a leading sports management company wholly devoted to promoting running and are being supported by Procam the organizers of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. The charity partners are Concern India while the Radio partners are Radio Mirchi. Heal Institute is the recovery partners and Unived are the supplementation partners.
Mrs. Michelle Kakade – After having run ‘The Marathon des Sables’ across the Sahara and the 4 Deserts Challenge, I am excited to take up the challenge of running the Golden Quadrilateral on foot in a Guinness World Record attempt. Dedicated to the cause of women empowerment, I dedicate each of the 6000 odd kilometers to those who are struggling to survive with respect and dignity purely on the basis of being females.
