Red, Blue & Yellow hosted the exclusive preview of Sunhil Sippy’s Photography Exhibition, ‘Journey’

Sunhil Sippy, Karishma Bajaj, Waheeda Rehman & Asim Merchant

Mumbai: Red, Blue & Yellow’s Photography Exhibition of Sunhil Sippy’s ‘Journey’ went live yesterday, 7th May, 2015. It was kick-started with an exclusive Cocktail Preview of the collections of photographs at the store itself at Mahalaxmi. Store owners Karishma Bajaj and Asim Merchant were present along with Sunhil Sippy to indulge in a tête-à-tête with their guests over drinks and canopies. While guests who graced the preview included Waheeda Rehman, Nimrat Kaur, Vikram Bawa, Farhad Taraporewala, Krsna Mehta, Ayesha Kapur, Deanne Pandey, Kapil Sharma and Sunita Rao among others.
The show features 12 exceptional images that capture the heart of urban Mumbai. An unconventional concept, the aim behind this exhibition is not to promote photography as merely an art, but an art that is integrated into daily living as part of home design and interiors. The photographs offer a fresh gaze into moments of mundane activity and landscapes in a city, that one would ordinarily miss on a daily commute. The raw beauty that lies in this urban milieu is conveyed through the photographs, thus making them a perfect piece of art to style a home.

ABOUT RED, BLUE & YELLOW: Red, Blue & Yellow was founded in 2000 by Karishma Bajaj, Asim Merchant and Paul Rodrigues. It was born from a shared singular passion for furniture and interiors, to be a showcase of modern design that has Indian roots and a global perspective.
Since its inception, RBY has actively promoted new talent and different mediums of art. “Photography as an art form is least explored in interiors, as most people prefer paintings. Yet, it is a great medium for contemporary homes and brings a varied perspective to ones interiors. At RBY, we curate shows that lend themselves to contemporary homes, presenting each show in a way that helps one imagine how photography could fit in with home décor,” says Karishma Bajaj.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Sunhil Sippy was born in London in 1971 and educated at Harrow School. He briefly attended Brooks Institute of Photography, prior to pursuing a degree in English Literature at Georgetown University. He moved to Mumbai in 1995 and worked in the television and film business, becoming a full-time commercials director in 2000. He has spent more than 14 years working on brands as diverse as Pepsi, Garnier, Asian Paints, Lux and Kellogg’s, mostly inside the confines of studio walls. Working on the street as a photographer was a direct reaction to working in big budget commercials. The solitary and organic nature of the work, along with the abundant creative freedom, made street photography a powerful and exciting creative outlet for Sunhil. He continues to direct commercials for a living but persistently shoots the streets of Mumbai for pure passion — searching for hidden stories and themes within this chaotic, ever-changing metropolis.
