Dr. L Subramaniam,Kavita krishnamurti,Bindu & Ambi returned from extensive tour of Europe

Dr. L. Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam and SubraMania (the band of Bindu and Ambi Subramaniam) recently returned from an extensive tour of Europe with concerts in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Latvia, Iceland and Spain in the span of eighteen days.  The tour included two concerts at the Europalia India International Festival and the Inauguration of the India Unlimited Series.  Concerts in Italy and Iceland were part of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival.   Dr. Subramaniam was also featured on RAI (Italian National television) on their morning show, where he was hailed as the Paganini of Indian music and the Emperor of violin.

It is well known that Dr. Subramaniam has made it one of his life’s ambitions to promote Indian Classical music and Carnatic music around the world.  In the 1970’s while touring with George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, he also taught Indian music at American Universities.  In the 1980’s, he was the first Indian to release an Audio CD (on Radio France’s Ocorra label). In 1985, he released An Anthology of South Indian Classical Music, and a few years later, Euphony a book on Indian Classical Music.  He was the first Indian to perform in many countries including Romania, Iceland and Japan. In 2007, he established the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts to teach Indian and global music and has a large number of international students and exchange programs.

The latest offering from Dr. L. Subramaniam is the Essential Raga Collection.  In each volume, he takes a traditional classical raga and expounds it in his unique way, presenting long improvisational sections and important compositions.  The first two volumes (Yedukula Kambhoji and Anandabhairavi) have been released, with the third to be released in 2014.

Dr. L. Subramaniam and his daughter Bindu Subramaniam have also just released the SaPa Baby book, designed to teach Indian Classical music to children in a fun and engaging way.  The illustrated book with two audio CDs contains activities, trivia and mini theory lessons to keep children interested while providing a solid foundation in classical music.
