Luck To Team India In 15th World School Games Olympiad
Forty Nine school athletes including gold medalist Anjana
Thamke, Abdullah Aboobacker and Mohammed Afsal have been selected to the
60-member Indian school athletics team for the 15th World School Olympiad, a
quadrennial international event organized by the International School Sport
Federation (ISF), to be held at Brasilia in Brazil from November 27th to
December 4, 2013.
Following an intensive training program of 90
days, 60 members squad representing Team India left morning today
at 5.30 AM to participate in 15th World School Games Olympiad hoping to
break all records.
Interestingly, 49 under 18 Indian participants will be
attending this event under the supervision of School Games Federation Of India
(S.G.F.I).
Furthermore, three times gold medal winner athlete Anjana
Thamke too is a part of this event. Aboobacker
of Kalladi HSS and Afsal of Parli HS both in Palakkad had won gold in triple
jump and 800m, respectively at the Asian School Meet held in Malaysia are also
the part of this squad .
According to Dr. Rajesh Mishra (General Secretary of
S.G.F.I) and Mr. N.B. Mote (Dy Director Sports Govt. Of Maharashtra) who is on who is on tour with team as a
manager said, And the trails to select the team was very important on
their merits and S.G.F.I has really worked hard to select the athletes from all
across the nation.
S.G.F.I deputed Mr. N.B. Mote (Dy
Director Sports Govt. Of Maharashtra) as the chief
of delegation along with manager of athlete Mr. Riyaz
Ahmed, Swimming manager Mr. Sadiq Shaikh.
The squad:
BOYS;
Abdulla Aboobacker (Kerala, Triple), Md Afsal (Ker, 800m), Shakti Solanki
(Delhi, Shot put).
GIRLS;
Meghana Devanga (Maharashtra, Shot put), Swapna Burman (W.Bengal, High jump),
Anjana Thamke (Mah,800m), Shilbi AP (Alappuzha,100m), Lekha Unni (1,500m of
Mercy Kuutans Athletics Academy),
Pushpa Jakhar (Haryana, Javelin throw), Anjali Jose (CSH, Kottayam, 400m) are
part of this team.
Overall 52 countries are participating at this sports affair. Well we just hope that India manages to steal all the gold medals.
