Agilent Technologies and IIT Bombay Inaugurate Agilent-IIT Device Characterization Lab at IIT Bombay Campus for Nanotechnology
Research
Students Will Experience Advanced DC and RF Characterization using Agilent Equipment as Part of Research and Educational Program
MUMBAI, 11 Nov, 2013:
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and IIT Bombay, India`s premier engineer institute, today inaugurated the
Agilent-IIT Device Characterization Lab. The lab is an exclusive DC/RF device characterization lab that is set up under the
Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics (CEN), part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. The lab will provide an environment for students to conduct research in the field of nanotechnology.
Agilent
supports worldwide academic research and contributes measurement
expertise, products, solutions and financial support in its fields of
interest. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay chose
to work with Agilent due to the company’s leadership in electronic test
and measurement and broad product offering. Specific lab instruments
that Agilent is providing to IIT Bombay include the Agilent B1500A
semiconductor device analyzer, PNA-X (43.5 GHz) network analyzer, PXA (44 GHz) signal analyzer, power meter and sensor, digital signal oscilloscope
and a pulse generator.
"In the
Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics, which is created at IIT Bombay
with support from the Department of Electronics & Information
Technology, government of India, we have been using
lot of Agilent equipment for our advanced nanoelectronic device
characterizations”, said Prof. V.Ramgopal Rao, Chief Investigator,
Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics project, IIT Bombay. “Agilent is
one of the world's leading companies in precision measuring
instruments. It is a great learning experience for our students to be
exposed to such advanced characterization equipment as part of their
research and educational activities."
Mr.
Sudhir Tangri, vice president and country manager, Electronic
Measurement Group, Agilent Technologies India, said, “Our work with IIT
Bombay is a great example of our ability to contribute
world-class products and solutions, technical expertise and
infrastructure to best address the needs of cutting-edge technological
research in the country. We are pleased to be associated with India’s
premier engineering school, and are excited to offer Agilent’s
unique value to PG/PhD research.”
About the Electrical Engineering Department, CEN and IIT Bombay
The
Indian Institute of Technology is a group of premier engineering schools
in India, highly regarded for their multidisciplinary research and
contributions to the scientific world for over last
six decades. The Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay has
a Centre of Excellence in Nano-Electronics (CEN) which is funded by the
central government. The center is engaged in research for
nanoelectronic devices and has the capability to do design,
fabrication and material and electrical characterization. The lab works
in conjunction with a similar lab at Indian Institute of Science and is
considered to be a national facility in which industry and academia can
use for the development and testing of devices.
The center has received funding to move to a second phase of expansion
which also includes enhancing electrical characterization capabilities
in both low frequencies and microwave frequency.
The
Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics (CEN) anchored in the department
of Electrical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was
established in the year 2006. EE@IIT Bombay is
one of the largest departments in the institute with 60 faculty members
and approximately 1200 students. CEN is one of the flagship labs of the
department. CEN focuses on the design, fabrication and characterization
of traditional CMOS nano electronic devices,
novel material based devices (III-V compound semiconductor,
spintronics, and opto-electronics), micromechanical systems, Bio-MEMS,
solar photovoltaics and polymer based devices. IIT Bombay was
established in 1958 and is recognized as one of the center of academic
excellence in the country. For additional information
