1st November 2016, Mumbai: Renowned Indian television actress and the Founder and Artistic Director of the Srijon Foundation Mrs. Kamalika Guha Thakurta, has launched Artscape, an initiative to use her knowledge on music and dance as a form of therapy .
Under the able guidance of Mrs. Kamalika Guha Thakurta, who is trained in Indian Classical Dance and Music and has been known for her absolute excellence as an actor in the Indian television industry. The main objective of this noble initiative is to use art forms as a tool to develop individuality, communication and social skills. It aims to provide individuals a great quality of life for people of all ages with a range of needs and challenges.
Sharing her thoughts on the launch of this foundation, she said, "The idea behind ARTSCAPE is to use the Performing Art Forms as an alternative approach to recovery, healing and psychological rehabilitation of survivors of any kind of trauma – physical or emotional.”

One of the initiative under the Artscape foundation is ‘Beyond Academic’: The Arts for Personality Development/Community Building’

The emphasis here is to use the Arts, which includes the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts, along with normal routine education to aim for a holistic development of children and their personality. ARTSCAPE partnered with the Flowering Tree Inc and the Light of Life Trust to train children from the Mangaon, Alibagh, Karjat area in Indian vocal, instrument & dance which culminated in the staging of a musical drama production “Kalpataru” conceived and produced by ARTSCAPE led by Mrs. Kamalika Guha Thakurta.

In addition to this, ARTSCAPE runs its ‘Care for Cancer Initiative’which attempts to integrate a complementary music program in supportive cancer care which accompanies the medical treatment. Regular Music and Meditation Sessions are held at Cancer Rehabilitation Homes like ACTREC, St Judes and Nana Palkar Smriti Samiti. These Sessions are targeted at the patients as well as the Caregivers with the aim to promote physical and emotional well-being.
