U.S.-India Business Council confers Lifetime Achievement Award upon Hon’ble Justice Fathima Beevi

Ameera Shah receives USIBC Corporate Champion Award; 7th Annual Legal Service Conference focuses on legal issues related to Startups in India, White Collar Investigations, Tax, and Intellectual Property


The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) concluded its 7th Annual Legal Services Conference in Delhi and Mumbai. This year’s conference attracted attorneys from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India. The conference focused on discussions in substantive legal areas including: “Managing Regulatory and Political Risk in India,” “Legal Considerations for Startups in India,” “White Collar Issues in Indo-US Context: A Commercial Approach toward Risk Management,” “Tax Considerations across Borders: the Latest on Investigations, Indirect Transfers, Group Re-organizations, and Valuations,” “Evolving Role of Women in the Indian Legal Profession,” and “Legal Issues related to the Innovative and Creativity-Driven Economy in India.”

USIBC awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to Honourable Justice Fathima Beevi, the first female Supreme Court Justice in India. USIBC also awarded the Corporate Champion Award to Ameera Shah of Metropolis Healthcare, Ltd. The U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Verma was the keynote speaker at the Conference in Delhi.

The conference was supported by U.S. and Indian law firms and organizations including Covington & Burling, Khaitan & Co., Jones Day, DMD, Capital Novus, Trilegal, Greenberg Traurig, AZB & Partners, and PSA Legal Counsellors, and White & Case.   

“USIBC member law firms and companies held productive discussions that brought our legal communities closer together. Through the USIBC’s Annual Legal Services Conference, we aim to not only help promote the rule of law and sharing of best practices, but also deepen connections and relationships between our two countries” said Amy Hariani, Director and Legal Policy Council at the U.S.-India Business Council.
