Mumbai, March 3rd, 2015:  As the lights dimmed in the auditorium at Mumbai’s art-house center Matterden CFC, signaling the first screening at the month-long CinePlay Festival ’15 Act 1, audiences were filled with a newly-kindled overwhelming respect for one of India’s most-esteemed actors - Dr. Mohan Agashe.

Dr. Agashe’s expansive filmography and never-ending theatre credits span over 4 decades and include some of the best that the Indian theatre and film circuits have had to offer - ranging from Aakrosh to Ghashiram Kotwal, and Train to Pakistan toRang De Basanti. A Padmashri awardee, the versatile multilingual actor is as comfortable in front of the camera as he is on a stage in front of thousands.

CinePlay celebrates the blending of the magic of theatre with the power of cinema, and the former FTII Director General, who stars in two CinePlays, was an obvious choice as a true purveyor of the both. Dr. Agashe was felicitated by distinguished director Govind Nihalani, who had directed him in Aakrosh. Noted actor Nandita Das, and her husband and founder of CinePlay, Subodh Maskara were also present for the ceremony.

“As we continue our experiment to merge the worlds of cinema and theatre, we wanted to share our successes with one of our frequent collaborators, Dr. Agashe, who epitomizes the strengths of both,” said Maskara. “After all, Dr. Agashe was an integral part of what we consider one of the first CinePlays in India - Ghashiram Kotwal

Dr. Mohan Agashe stars in two CinePlays - Mahesh Dattani’s Hasmukh Saab Ki Wasihat and Mohan Rakesh’s Adhe Adhure.

CinePlay Festival ’15 Act 1 runs from February 27th - March 22nd, 2015.
