PUMA and RFL bring the second edition of
PUMA Urban Stampede in Mumbai
Celebrating the joy of running
Mumbai, 2nd February 2014 - PUMA and Runners for Life came together this Sunday morning to elevate
running in Mumbai to a whole new level with PUMA Urban Stampede 2013-2014 in
the city. Urban Stampede is a corporate relay where teams comprised of 4
members each, compete for the title of the fastest corporate running team. The
run is aimed at encouraging amateurs and seasoned runners alike to take part in
a sport that is as enjoyable and fulfilling as it is beneficial.
For the Mumbai
edition PUMA Urban Stampede, each participating team consisted of 4 members
from the same company, each of whom ran a 5km circuit, in relay format. For the
first time this year, PUMA Urban Stampede introduced a new format called the
‘Open Challenge’ where teams of two runners finished 20km (2x10km). The Mumbai
edition saw close to 200 teams participating from across more than 100
companies , an indication that the race was well received in Mumbai again this
year.
Key companies
like Hindustan Unilever, Citibank, RBS, Wipro, Air India , HSBC, Vodafone and
India Bulls sent teams to PUMA Urban Stampede. There was a Men’s, Women’s and
Mixed category in both the Corporate Relay as well as the Open Challenge.
Special mention must be given to the Mumbai Police – who made a clean sweep of
all the top spots in Open Challenge Men’s, Women’s and Mixed). Special
guest celebrity Neha Dupia attended the event, being a runner herself Neha gave
away prizes to the winning Women’s teams.
PUMA Urban
Stampede is the only national running property in the country. First unleashed
in 2008, this fun run has witnessed an exponential rise in participation over
the years and this year the Urban Stampede is scaled up to include
Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. The 2014- 2015 edition of PUMA Urban
stampede will make its presence felt in a total of eight cities – Pune,
Chandigarh, Chennai and Calcutta, along with Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and
Hyderabad.
“Running has been
one of the most basic forms of exercise for the human race and PUMA wants to
inspire the urban Indian to go back to their roots and run. PUMA has associated
with Runners for Life will help to create a space where young professionals who
are enthusiastic about sport and fitness can come together and garner tips on
how to maximize performance.” said Rajiv Mehta, Managing Director, India, PUMA.
