ARE OUR KITCHEN CLEAN BY.RASHIDA MUKADAM [EDITOR]

ARE OUR KITCHEN CLEAN      BY.RASHIDA MUKADAM [EDITOR]

Mumbai, 12th February 2012:   Visually clean kitchen is only a superficially clean kitchen if it is not properly disinfected and sanitized, a new survey conducted by the Indian Medical Academy (IMA) among 1,400 homemakers from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, and 500 doctors across the country, has found.
While 87% of homemakers responded that the removal of dirt, dust, grease and oil qualified as adequate kitchen cleaning, and nearly 95% of them believe that ‘visually clean’ implied hygienically clean, only 13% felt it important to remove germs and bacteria from their kitchens. In contrast, 100% of doctors asserted that ‘visually clean’ only means superficially clean and not hygienically clean.
“The general perception of kitchen hygiene among Indian homemakers stems from what appears to be visually clean as opposed to a properly sanitized and disinfected kitchen where the priority is to get rid of disease-causing germs,” said Dr. Preetaish Kaul, Consultant of the Indian Medical Academy.

ARE OUR KITCHEN CLEAN      BY.RASHIDA MUKADAM [EDITOR]

I always thought like all the home makers like me that my kitchen is pristine white and clean to look at is really clean but this myth came to an end when the Indian MedicalAcademy  (IMA) conducted a study on kitchen cleanliness involving 1400 homemakers 500 doctors in 7 cities across the country the topic hit me as to why would such a topic evoke a need for a study  because we all homemakers are really proud of our homes and think it the cleanest and safest place for our dear ones it seems its a myth that "visually clean kitchen are hygienically clean"
just removing dirt, grease, dust and oil  from the kitchen does not make our kitchen clean we have to use a disinfectant to make it hygienically clean the doctors advice us to clean our kitchen as we tend to neglect its cleanliness as its not important as no one can see it but as we all need food so does the micro organism and what better place than a kitchen where they multiply faster
we all are so phobic about keeping our bathrooms and toilets clean thinking its the dirtiest but the fact is the kitchen sponge is 2,00,000 times dirtier than the toilet seat that small invisible thing is power packed with germs who thought that! i always thought Gastrointestinal infection is due to eating outside food but never even imagined that i am nuturing these infectious germs iun my kitchen it makes me shudder we make it a point to clean our vessels every day but do we even think chopping boards, kitchen towel slabs etc......these small carelessness of ours makes our kitchen the breeding ground for germs.
To be very frank just thinking about cleaning the refrigorator makes me tired as it is such a monumental task but now i just have to tackle it saying need to get rid of the germs i HAVE to clean it now see if any germs dare enter my kitchen
we all use steel utensils in our homes but it seems there are a lot of micro organism on it washing will not help we need to warm up the serving plates before serving to get rid of the germs as we cannot do away without using steel
I hope as the (IMA) Indian Medical Academy has opened my eyes to keeping my cooking space hygienically clean by using the disinfactant i suceed in putting the myth "visually clean kitchen are hygienically clean" to rest so people take a look into your kitchen and lets all make our kitchens clean and stay healthy and say bye bye to germs GOOD AND HEALTHY LIVING
