THE FIRST EVER IN HISTORY OF INDIAN RACING
“CAMBAY TIGER SUNDOWN RACING”
TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, 18TH AND SUNDAY, 19TH APRIL 2015





April 11, 2015: Mumbai, a metropolis that has witnessed the glorious sport of horseracing for more than two centuries, is proudly carrying forward its legacy into the future as the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) prepares to host the “TRIAL RUN OF SUNDOWN RACING”  - India’s first ever in history of Indian Racing – on Saturday,18th and Sunday,19TH April, 2015.
India’s first race course was set up in Chennai in 1777. Today, the country has a very well established racing and breeding industry, and the sport is conducted throughout the year on nine racetracks by six racing authorities. The love and support for the sport has reached a stage where it cuts across socio-economic boundaries.
The Royal Western India Turf Club, Ltd. will be implementing Evening Racing at the Mumbai Race Course. This project would be a “game changer” for the Club and the sport itself which will not only result in increasing the footfall and turnover but also convert the Race Course into a family destination on race days.

The interest and enthusiasm in Indian horseracing is at an all-time high and the sport might grow into India’s second largest sport in the near future by conducting Evening Racing.
Cambay Tiger, India’s largest selling seafood brand, is the title sponsor for the Evening Racing weekend and they will sponsor the two evening race days.  The illumination of the track will be from 1,200 metres to the Winning Post and about 300 metres beyond so as to enable horses to pull up after the races.
The races on these days will commence from 5.00 p.m. onwards. The races under the lights are scheduled @ 7.15 p.m.7.45 p.m. and 8.15 p.m.
There will be several popular food and beverage stalls with all kinds of cuisines both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.  A special children play area for the kids. The food stalls will be operational till10.00 p.m. on both days.

Mr. Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, Chairman, Royal Western India Turf Club said: RWITC  Ltd., the premier horse racing Club in the country is set to add a new chapter in Indian Racing history by organizing evening racing at the Mahalakshmi Race Course. It is a fantastic initiative by the Club and this would undoubtedly be a “game changer” which will increase the footfall. I am confident that with the evening racing, the Mahalakshmi Race Course would turn into one of the exciting and enjoyable destination for the mumbaikars to spend an evening with their family.
