Notes to the Editor: The British Council through its advanced teaching Centre in Chennai has taught English language courses to over 26,000 learners since 2009. Students attribute the success of the program to the interactive ‘learning through doing’ approach employed in class thereby unlocking their school book learning to discover new confidence in their ability to communicate in English. The teaching centre is part of the British Council’s strategy to improve access to high quality English language education thus helping India enrich its competitiveness in the global economy. The British Council employs over 1,800 teachers who teach over a million class hours of English to 350,000 students each year at our 70 teaching centres worldwide.

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We work in 110 countries worldwide to build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people.
