Standing right to left: Mr. A. Ravi, President ISHRAE Thane Chapter ,Dr. Roshini Easow, ASHRAE Mumbai President, Dr. Sanjit Singh Lamba, MD –Eisai Pharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Raveendra Shetty, President, ISHRAE Mumbai Chapter, Mr. K. Ramachandran, ISHRAE National President.

July 24, 2015, Mumbai: Symposia, a seminar with focus on the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facilities in India and the role of HVAC&R in the pharmaceuticals industry, held in Mumbai, is a prelude to ACREX India 2016, South Asia’s largest exhibition on Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Refrigeration & Building Services which is scheduled to take  place in Mumbai on February 25-27, 2016. Air conditioning is an integral part of the Pharmaceutical Industry. Ensuring pharmaceutical products are manufactured in the required contained and controlled environment is very essential if the product potency is to be maintained during its shelf life. Working areas in pharmaceutical industries are highly sensitive to airborne contaminants. Furthermore, the production process results in generation of fumes that if left unchecked can potentially contaminate future batches and the work environment. Hence, HVAC systems are pivotal for pharmaceutical facilities to achieve industrial standards.

Combined together the Indian pharmaceutical industries are the third largest in the world based on volume. The rapid modernization as a part of their growth strategy has resulted in the need for state of the art HVAC –R systems. The seminar focused on good manufacturing practices and environmentally friendly designs that not only ensure quality products, but also the safety and well being of all personnel. The key speakers focused on the need for manufacturing standards, essential for making sure that design, systems and equipment installation are done while eliminating risks. All the issues and trends on the role of HVAC and R systems in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facilities which were discussed at Symposia will be taken forward on a national level at ACREX India 2016.

Mr. Pankaj Dharkar, President of M/s. Pankaj Dharkar & Associates and National President of Fire and Security Association of India says, “The Indian pharmaceutical Industry has grown phenomenally and today has achieved an eminent global position in the pharma sector. The Competitive nature has diversified the industry from traditional manufacturing to various spheres of activities which include research & development, manufacturing API’s, laboratory testing and clinical research. This makes the requirements of services like Air-conditioning & Ventilation, Fire & Safety and Plumbing much more demanding, requiring a higher level of engineering and co-ordination between all services. Temperature, relative humidity and ventilation should be appropriate and should not adversely affect the quality of pharmaceutical products during their manufacture and storage, or the accurate functioning of equipment. In view of this, we are organizing the symposia to spread awareness.”

Mr. Ramachandran, National President, ISHRAE says “HVAC systems in pharmaceutical facilities must meet global standards of current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs). Pharma regulations require that manufacturers must take proactive steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure and effective. HVAC system plays a critical role in achieving this. This seminar shall focus discussion on understanding the basics of HVAC system from regulatory view point and its validation for the pharma industry.  Symposia also aims to provide guidance to pharmaceutical manufacturers on the design, installation, qualification and maintenance of HVAC systems.
