CNN-IBN & IBN7 present an exclusive poll on Modi Government’s one year in power


Over 20,000 respondents across 23 states; over 72% satisfaction rate with the Modi Government


New Delhi, 25 May 2015: As CNN-IBN and IBN7’s special programming around Modi Government’s one year in power draws to a close, the channels present a special poll for its viewers assessing the government’s performance from the common man’s / woman’s perspective.

Marking a shift in leadership and style of governance, the Modi Government in the last one year undertook a series of measures to achieve the vision of a better India. To evaluate the impact of / perception about these changes at the ground level, Axis MyIndia conducted a comprehensive survey across 23 states and more than 155 districts with a sample size of 20,000 across all age groups and sections of society with a 70/30 urban-rural spread.

The survey findings show an overwhelming support for PM Modi. Over 72% of the respondents said that they are satisfied with the performance of the Modi Government on account of development, skillful governance and lower prices in the previous year.  56% of the sample believes that Narendra Modi is an effective Prime Minister and has helped improve India’s image globally. Respondents have shown strong faith in the Modi Government as 61% feel that the new Government has elevated their economic condition and 63% state that India’s economy has started looking up in the last one year. Most respondents feel that corruption and inflation have either come down or have stagnated at the very least; employment opportunities, on the other hand, have gone up as per 62%of the respondents. When asked about the Government led initiatives, 85% respondents endorsed Swachch Bharat as one of the best initiatives, 76% supported Jan Dhan Yojana, and other initiatives such as Make in India and Digital India also received a positive response with 43% and 42% support, respectively though there was some ambiguity with regards to the Land Bill. Respondents also felt that PM Modi has effectively utilized every possible communication tool to reach out to varied audiences. 30% stated that radio (Mann Ki Baat) has been used very well while 23% endorsed the use of TV, 20% gave a thumbs-up to the use of social media platforms while 17% and 4% mentioned public rallies and interventions in Parliament, respectively as effective tools for communication used by PM.

On the issue of the relationship between the Government and RSS, 32% of the respondents felt that there was no interference by RSS in the affairs of the government. On the impact of controversial statements such as those relating to Ghar Wapasi, approx 31% of the respondent felt that such statement do not dent the image of the Government at all whereas approx 33% felt that such statements do have an adverse impact; overall 43% of the respondents felt that those making controversial statement should be controlled.
