World’s largest Social Enterprise focused gathering, the Sankalp Unconvention Summit, will be held on April 9-11, 2014 in Mumbai

January 14, Mumbai: Sankalp Forum, an Intellecap initiative, announced the opening of registrations for the 2014 edition of Sankalp Unconvention Summit (SUS). It is world's largest social-enterprise focused gathering and brings together a diverse group of actors focused on addressing social and environmental issues through business. The Summit attracts large corporates, global development finance institutions, policy-makers and small and growing businesses.

“Sankalp Unconvention Summit is a platform that recognizes few of the most high-impact social enterprises from India and other developing markets such as Africa. The Summit is also one of the most powerful convening of global influencers, practitioners and stakeholders that are shaping inclusive development globally,” said Aparajita Agrawal, Director – Sankalp Forum.

In its previous edition, the Sankalp Unconvention Summit (2013) saw over 1,000 delegates, with 120+ investment ready social enterprises, and participants from 22 countries. Some of the renowned past speakers included President Abdul Kalam, UTV’s Ronnie Screwvala, impact investorAnthony Bugg-Levine, Jayanth Sinha of Omidyar, Ben White of VC4Africa and Anil Sinha of IFC. SUS 2013 peeled back the layers and moved beyond the conventional definition of impact.

This year, SUS2014 is gearing up to get more global, more democratic and more interactive; in view of a landmark partnership with SOCAP to align the Global North and Global South, and an extremely successful expansion in Africa in late 2013. This Summit is a convergence of global knowledge, investment and dialog geared towards building a more inclusive ecosystem for high impact, pro-poor businesses. Each year, it brings several social enterprises to the forefront, and connects them to enablers, mentors and crucial networks.

Furthermore, the finalists of Sankalp Awards 2014 will have the opportunity to make their investment pitch to a global audience of donors, investors, foundations & enablers at the world's largest social enterprise event, the Sankalp Unconvention Summit 2014. Winners will also be declared at the Summit, and stand to win up to USD 70,000.

A few months ago, Sankalp Forum expanded to Africa. The maiden conference there is expected to bring together over 300 people from around the world into Nairobi from Feb 12-13. This effort is supported by UKAid and Mara Foundation among others.
